Dear Members:
There are two types of gyms out there. By far the majority are the fitness centers that focus on how to continually increase their membership, and then there are the select few that focus on the welfare of their members. I think we have proven that without a doubt, we are 100% committed to the needs and welfare of our members!
Customer service, membership retention, and facility upgrades have been our major focus and continue to be. One of our major focuses this past season was to deal head on with the maintenance and cleanliness issues around the club. Our unsung hero is our new maintenance maven, Gary. Gary has single handedly cleaned the ceilings, refurbished our strength equipment, and brought our tile floors back to their original glory! If you are as pleased as I am, when you see Gary, please thank him for all his hard work!
This newsletter will focus on the in-house programs we have been running to provide variety and education for our members, as well as focus on the innovative changes to our Personal Training Department. These changes have made personal training more accessible, more functional, and more user-friendly than ever. As always, your feedback is what keeps us improving! On another note, I want to express my deepest thanks and gratitude to Catherine Ball, our business manager, whom after five years of dedicated service is leaving us to further and better her career. We wish her all of the best in her new career! Look forward to seeing you all this summer.
Cheers;
Leslie
Kitsilano Workout Customer Service
I want to start off by saying thank you to Kitsilano Workout members! It is a real joy to come to work and have great conversations with so many of you. Coming from 7 years at an all women’s fitness club I find the dual club environment to be more diverse which enables us to offer so much more.
You have over 70 classes a week, an openness that the windows provide around the club, all the cardio and user friendly strength training machines. Kitsilano Workout will continue to improve and supply you with the best feeling when taking care of your health and well being.
Kitsilano Workout wanted to put together a Mission Statement that reflected you. We want you to feel that this is your home away from home, to bring friends and family members with you for a FREE workout (see reception for free passes)! The 1st Friday of every month is Free Guest Friday’s, ask us about our member referral program when those friends and family members register at your club.
Summer is almost here let’s keep your fitness program motivating and fun, grab an information brochure beside the Group Exercise room or use the patio area to do your abdominal and stretching routines and look for fun outdoor events happening soon advertised around the club every month!

Motto
My Gym-My Way
Dear Members,
Over the past year Kitsilano Workout has added new features and equipment to the club. We will now be replacing our existing Life Fitness treadmills with brand new treadmills, and you will be part of our decision making process!
Over the next two months, different brands of treadmills will be placed throughout the club for you to test. Each demo will be on the premise for approximately two weeks. We hope to test the latest from Cybex, Life Fitness and Star Trac. Please offer your feedback using the comment forms at the club or the General Feedback Forum on line at www.kitsilanoworkout.com
You are the customer and we value your opinion!
Thank you,
Jennifer
While many of you have seen me in the gym over the last couple of months working the front desk, my true passion and knowledge lies in the Health & Fitness realm. I began in the health industry as a competitive swimmer for 13 years training at a National level and helping UBC win 2 National titles.
After finishing my swimming career I began to fill my spare time by training friends and family to improve their health. Without a coach and team to push myself in my own fitness routine I struggled to maintain my level of fitness and body composition. I had to learn how to train myself in a way that I would be consistent while achieving the level of fitness I know my body is capable. Therefore, Personal Training for me stems from a desire to help others achieve their fitness goals and to be passionate about their own lives in a positive way, just as I once had to learn.
I use a combination of my educational background as well as life experience when training my clients. I have completed my Bachelor of Human Kinetics with a specialization in Exercise Science and I am currently a registered Kinesiologist, and Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certificates (CSCS). Over the next couple of years I will complete my Exercise Physiologists Certificate, also continuing my certifications in specialized areas.

His nursing background brings a wealth of experience and professionalism to his personal training skills, and his clients benifit greatly from his extensive knowledge base.
He also teaches Indoor Cycling because it inspires him to see others having fun and enjoying and adopting an active lifestyle. “I feel truly blessed to be able to share an hour or two out of my week with others who, for whatever reason, find themselves in my company seeking a challenge.“
Fitness Philosophy:
“I am a firm believer in the mind-body connection. Energy follows intention, and I firmly believe that if you put your mind to creating a profound change in your fitness level and health, that you will succeed! I am mystified by the fact that, we as humans, spend so much time and care brushing our teeth, but when it comes to the rest of our body and our minds, we treat them as if they will effortlessly take care of themselves. It simply does not work that way. Stay active!“

Outdoor Training
It has been so nice to see the sun coming out more often so we can get outside and enjoy the beautiful area that we live in. With the warm weather comes the temptation to skip workouts and hit the patios. Many people like to get more active outside in the spring and summer months and put their regular strength training on hold. The personal trainers at Kitsilano Workout have designed some creative and effective strength programs and bootcamps that can be done in the great outdoors. Trainers have been taking individual clients, partners, small groups and bootcamps down to Kits Beach to bring variety and fun to their workouts. Our programs include full body functional and sport training, cardio bursts and flexibility and are a great way for you to keep your body in shape for the beach and all the outdoor adventures you enjoy in the summer. Talk to one of our trainers about how you can be a part of a group or take your own training outside.
